Little by little, all the rooms are being renovated – in the past, every room featured a tiled stove and an old washstand. Early in the morning, a chambermaid would come to light the stove and bring a pitcher of hot water. Back then, there was a divan sofa in every room. It was unthinkable to lie down in bed for a afternoon nap. Instead, the divan with its bedspread was ready and waiting – it even had an elevated headrest. A bit later, washbasins were installed, initially with only cold water, and later with hot water too. In the next step, the divan was "retired" and the space it freed up was used for a prefabricated bathroom cabin. Back then, that was a real breakthrough and the only way to install a bathroom that wasn't too heavy in overall weight and, above all, was completely watertight. Tiles and floor screed were out of the question – after all, the upper floors of the house were built using traditional timber construction. Made from thick wood, certainly felled in winter during the right phase of the moon – a challenge for any renovation work and chainsaws. Now: two rooms have been merged into one spacious, comfortable room and equipped with a bright bathroom featuring an extra-large shower. That is the status quo; whatever else is to come is still written in the stars.
